Richmond Consultants were asked to find ways to increase the acceptance of new approaches to reliability management in large food processing Plants. We discovered that managers needed to change their style several times as the introduction of a new system proceeded from initial briefing to wholescale adoption. With this insight it was possible to assess whether the culture in workgroups was appropriate for the current stage of implementation. For this programme more than 40 Plants around the World were surveyed to help to ensure that managers were adaopting the optimal styles for implementation.
Sugar Cane is a major crop in many countries. There are many opportunities for innovation to add value. The cutting machine on the left creates a great deal of dust as it cuts the cane. This can get into the fuel and hydraulic systems and cause extensive down-time. Understanding the problem, and the costs of cleaning systems, led to a programme to protect vulnerable systems from dust. The savings were considerable.
